A 41-year-old Indo-Canadian man has been arrested for a number of break-ins and thefts at Hindu temples in Canada’s Durham Area and Higher Toronto Space, police mentioned.

Nonetheless, the offences don’t seem like hate crimes or motivated by hate, Durham Regional Police mentioned in a press launch on Thursday.

The police recognized the person as Jagdish Pandher from Brampton metropolis.

In line with the press launch, within the early hours of October 8, police responded to a break-and-enter at a Hindu temple within the space of Bayly Avenue and Krosno Boulevard in Pickering.

Pandher was seen on safety surveillance breaking into the temple and taking a big amount of money from the donation bins. He fled the realm earlier than police arrival, it mentioned.

He was “seen on surveillance footage later that morning committing extra break-and-enters at Hindu temples in Pickering and Ajax,” the discharge mentioned.

Police say the suspect has been linked to quite a few different break-and-enters at Hindu temples all year long.

“These break-and-enters occurred in Durham Area and across the Higher Toronto Space,” they mentioned.

Pandher has been charged with 4 counts of break-and-enter amongst different costs, the discharge mentioned.
