Telecom Body to Ensure DND App Compatibility With All Android Phones by March

Trai is fixing bugs in its do not disturb app. (Representational)

New Delhi:

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is addressing technical issues in its do not disturb (DND) app to help mobile subscribers report pesky calls and text messages promptly, stated a senior official at the regulatory body.

During an event organized by Truecaller, Trai Secretary V Raghunandan mentioned that an agency has been enlisted to fix bugs in the DND app. He also noted that compatibility issues with certain Android devices are being resolved, with the aim of making the app compatible with all Android devices by March.

Reportedly, the Trai DND app has been encountering errors when users attempt to report spam calls and SMS. Mr Raghunandan emphasized that with enhancements to the app, there has been a significant reduction in the number of spam calls and SMS.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to make the app compatible with iOS devices, despite Apple’s initial denial of access to call logs. Additionally, findings from a pilot project conducted by Tanla on the Vodafone Idea network to combat fraud calls have been partially incorporated into the standard operating procedure, which has been shared with telecom operators.

Mr Raghunandan also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts involving public and private agencies to address security concerns in the country. Truecaller CEO and Co-Founder Alan Mamedi emphasized the challenges related to Open AI and the detection of manipulated voices, with the company witnessing 5 million spam calls reported daily in India.

It was also noted that digital fraud no longer only affects older individuals, as even young people have become vulnerable to such scams.
